Goth Dad is back! Athens, GA own Vision Video returns with another brilliant album, "Haunted Hours". This release, teased through a series of singles and accompanying music videos, is definitely a touch darker than their previous album, with Dusty Gannon himself explaining the sociopolitical themes behind some of the songs, in particular "Death in a Hallway", "Beautiful Day to Die", and the title track "Haunted Hours". Some of the songs are a call to arms against corrupt and inept politicians and the Evangelicals who back them, others deal with death, loss, and other difficult subjects. All the themes in this album are handled beautifully, and are delivered with voices that soar instead of sulk, with choruses that will have you singing yourself into catharsis. This album is a celebration of what makes Goth/Post-Punk so great; the jangly, icy-toned guitars, the driving bass, the drum beats that make you move your feet. One could compare them to the greats, like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, and The Smiths. But is this really accurate? While Vision Video's sound is definitely a call back to their influences, they have definitely carved out their own niche and are on their way to becoming iconic.
Stand out track: End of Days.
