Tears For The Dying, "In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun" Album Review.

Tears For The Dying have made a name for themselves as one of Deathrock's most exciting bands, and they are set to release an incredible new album into the world. Hailing from Athens, GA, Tears For The Dying, fronted by the dynamic Adria, have crafted 11 wicked new tracks that comprise the album "In the Shadow of the Midnight Sun". The opening track "We Are The Darkness" proudly proclaims the band's presence as it winds into the next song "Dagger In God's Back", a short and aggressive punk opus. Each track is an exercise in diverse sounds that all converge into a cohesive brand of noise that is distinctly Tears For The Dying's own. One of the most interesting songs on the album is "Bloat". This is not your typical Deathrock song, not at all. "Bloat" has a very unique song structure, starting off lowkey and then quickly picking up pace until it hits a wall of jerking rhythms, only to pick back up into a double-time shuffle. A more progressive approach than what is typically seen in the genre is applied here, and it absolutely works to shatter the boundaries of what we are all so used to hearing. Full of fierce femininity, the album ends with an unexpected cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene". While most bands are intent on rehashing the same songs, like "Cry Little Sister", Tears For The Dying once again shatter any sort of expectation by branching way out into unexplored realms. And it is beautiful to see and to hear. This is, without a doubt, one of the best albums to come out this year.

Standout tracks: "Bloat", "Heterochromia" and "Jolene".
