Sonum Unum, "Signals From The Sun" Album Review

Electronic Rock duo, Sonum Unum, have released their debut album, "Signals From The Sun", and it is truly a powerful listen. Taking cues from 80's and 90's era synthpop and electro, Sonum Unum masterfully layer lush and pulsing electronics on top of ambient vocals. The mix is absolutely perfect, especially if you are a fan of electronic rock like The Anix; yet Sonum Unum strays from the often gritty and harsh soundscapes preferred by their peers. "Signals From The Sun" takes us on a journey through themes exploring loss, and the pain and power of love. Much like the process of loss and grief, the progression of the songs is much akin to an emotional rollercoaster; many of the songs take us to the deepest parts of grief, accompanied by dark and ethereal sounds and somnambulant beats, while others soar sonically, like a phoenix triumphant from it's ashes. The ability of producers Craig Douglass and Michael Goldberg to pull so many emotions out of their audience is quite impressive, especially given that this is their debut album. From deep melancholy to love lost and found, "Signals From The Sun" is not to be missed out on.
