There are so many wonderful adjectives to describe the newest full-length from New York's own queen of industrial-edged dance music; dark, trippy, utterly hypnotic. From the very first track, "Bereishit", we are treated to an ever evolving tapestry of sounds. Spanning from a wide range of audible influences like The Secret Meeting, Wolfsheim, and even Skinny Puppy, "Fortune" takes us on a journey of shifting dynamics and beautifully swirling, ethereal soundscapes. "Lost Your Found" has a beat that would shame Paul Oakenfold, bouncing in tandem with Sapphira's otherworldly voice. Further on, "Those Words" tackles the duplicitous duality of modern times, and does so with an entrancing lower tempo dirge that drives her message home as the instrumentations march on. "Stand Together" is a beautiful call for unity, with a dark keyboard part that is reminiscent of VNV Nation at their absolute best (stay tuned for a review of the remix EP of "Stand Together", coming to the blog soon). Closing track, "Last", a collaboration with Jim Marcus, ends the album with a satisfying downbeat. Airy electronics float in the back of the mix while the dual vocals dance in tandem among the industrial beeps. And the beat carries through to a wonderful conclusion. "Fortune" is exactly that; this album is a veritable treasure trove of soundscapes to make the darkest heart get up and dance.
Standout Tracks: "Stand Together", and "Spicy" because it is just a wonderfully fun song.
