Jean-Marc Lederman Experience, "Sci-fi Revisited" Album Review

There are so many incredible pairings in this world, but none are as unexpected as the pairing of new and classic science fiction stories being read on top of industrial and ambient music. Curated by Jean-Marc Lederman, and with a host of incredible talents across the dark music scene, "Sci-fi Revisited" plays like an audiobook, but with some incredible music to accompany the spoken word aspect. Trippy, provocative, and downright intriguing, this album is the equivalent of The Outer Limits becoming a podcast. Featuring readings by Tom Shear of Assemblage 23, Mari Kattman, Daz Sharp (Spoils of Grace), Ken Magerman (Amaranth), and more, each tale is done justice both by the talent of the reader and the incredible compositions accompanying each story. Ranging from noisy electronica, pounding industrial, and buzzing ambience, each story is soundtracked differently, showing the vast diversity that Jean-Marc Lederman has in his musical arsenal. Growing up watching shows like The Twilight Zone and Tales From The Darkside with my parents, "I Love You, Sandy" is a great big hit of nostalgia, taken from one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone, "The Long Morrow". "The Three Laws of Robotics" by Isaac Asimov, is an exercise in experimental din, that, despite its shorter length from the other entries, stays with you. But it is "Titanium Aegis" read by Christina Z, that will continue to haunt well after the hour long album is done. Quite possibly the best of both worlds collide and intertwine into something incredible and original on "Sci-fi Revisited".

Standout Track: "Titanium Aegis".
