Colorado, a state best known for it's mountains, craft beer, and plethora of bluegrass bands. But hiding underneath this, and the cloud of potent medical marijuana, lies an underbelly of incredible metal music ripe with new talent. Legendary acts like Cephalic Carnage and Jag Panzer have called the Mile High City home. And right now, Denver's own Hel Hath Fury are set to explode. Releasing twin demos, "Halting Ragnarok" and "End of Humanity", the melodic death metal group absolutely demands your attention. "Halting Ragnarok" is an up-tempo display of pure aggression; it starts off directly in your face and does not relent until the last chord rings out. "End of Humanity", on the other hand starts of mid-tempo, with stunning melodies and atmospheric percussion. Marching forward like a funeral dirge, "End of Humanity" carries a certain melancholy in every chord. The guitar work especially would make Chuck Schuldiner proud. Be warned, Hel Hath Fury is not your typical metal band. While most bands in the extreme genres tend to be a tired exercise in blazing technical prowess, executing a hundred soulless notes in the space of a second, or blasting the drums so fast it sounds fake, Hel Hath Fury's approach is one that values precise musicality over flashiness. And that is such a huge breath of fresh air. Not saying that they don't have any technical prowess; that could not be further from the truth. But each note seems so carefully curated, each stroke of the drums so expertly calculated, that it is clear to see that the music truly matters to the musicians. And the vocals are just so visceral, each shriek and growl never seems to be out of place or overpowers the mix. These two singles are so well done, it is honestly hard to believe that they are demos. Hel Hath Fury definitely caters to both fans of old school and newer death metal, and they do so beautifully.
