Haunt Me, "Don't Fall Asleep" EP Review

Happy All Hallows' Eve, dear reader! While the hour draws near that the glorious month of October ends, it is my duty to bring you a review of one of the best EP's of the month. Austin, Texas' own Haunt Me brings on the creepy vibes with their new EP, "Don't Fall Asleep". Stylistically, you still get the formula that they have fine tuned; the droning bass, atmospheric synths, the crooning and brooding baritone of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Darius Davila, but with a thematic twist. "Don't Fall Asleep" is not a reverie of longing and lost love, much like past releases such as "This Sadness Never Ends". No, not even close. This time, the Texas trio brings a horror element into the mix, creating a new kind of monster: darkwave with a horror punk attitude. Songs like "Night Prowler" and "Black Dahlia Flower" are straight up homages to true crime, detailing one of America's most terrifying serial killers and one of Hollywood's grisliest unsolved murders. Of course, you will be dancing and moving your body as these songs play much like the classics we all know and love, and some even have the dance floor feel of old school She Wants Revenge. And dare I say that "Halloween (Killing Time)" is the new anthem of the season of the witch. Move over, Ministry. Haunt Me is here to take that crown!

Standout Track: "Halloween (Killing Time)
