Eva X, "Dopamine Blind" Single Review

Vancouver, B.C's own siren of synthpop is back to move our feet with her brand new single, "Dopamine Blind". The self-described Robot Girl brings her signature take on a harder version of synthpop, with grinding guitars and hard hitting beats, paired with her incredible vocal range. The song grabs a hold of you right out the gate with a jerking syncopated percussive hit, that is then joined by distortion drenched guitars. We are then lured into a danceable state, as the beat pulses like a heart under the floorboards, and Eva X lends her voice into the hypnotic mix. My favorite part of the song comes next, as we are then treated to a pre chorus that has those jerking syncopations again, this time intertwined with her words and voice. It serves perfectly as it hypes you up for the chorus to hit with the force of wrecking ball. "Dopamine Blind" is perfectly poppy in all the right ways, but gritty with industrial distortion at the same time, like a disco-plated buzzsaw. The single, with all of its anthemic grit, plays like the audio equivalent of a street in Times Square; adorned in neon, yet beautifully rough in the best way. If this single is a sign of what is to come for a potential sophomore LP, be very excited for the ascent of Eva X to the top of the pop/industrial crossover artists.
