Hot on the heels of last year's "Mercenary notes, Pt 1", Derision Cult is back at it again, with some help from some really incredible friends. "The Mercenary Mixes" sees the content of the last album remixed, reconfigured, and reimagined by some of the scene's most talented rising stars, and some absolutely legendary names. While Dave McAnally's signature guitar wizardry and snarling vocal attack remain present for much of the remixes, the rest has been molded into much different soundscapes across the huge roster of talent that lent to the album. From the cooler grooves of ACTORS take on "Deaf Blood" to the blistering assault of Assemblage 23's rendition of "Year Hope Failed", there is so much diversity going on that it is quite a lot to take in, but in the best way possible. The most amazing thing is that literally no song sounds the same as the other. Up and comer Moris Blak takes a stab at "Mercenary" while the legend themselves, Leaether Strip, uses their own sonic alchemy to transform "Bastards of the World" into something new, something sharp, pulsing, and dangerous, but oh so danceable. Having already reviewed "Mercenary Notes, Pt 1" last year, and receiving high accolades from myself and others, this writer will go on record as saying that this remix album is an absolute must own for industrial fans and DJs alike. Give it a spin, and transport yourself into a bliss of pure noise.
Standout Tracks: "Year Hope Failed- Assemblage 23 Mix" and "Deaf Blood- ACTORS Mix".
