From the mists of the Pacific Northwest comes a Darkwave delight in the form of Ceremony Shadows. Hailing from Portland, OR, the trio, which started as a solo project for instrumentalist Timo, have put out a brand new single, "Resistance". From the start, the synths and its accompanying beat set the pace for the song, and when the rest of the composition joins in, it is an exercise in what makes Darkwave so appealing. Icy, ethereal, and gloomy, the electronics weave masterfully around dual singers, Anastasia and Jakub, who sing in tandem so gracefully. Taking cues from groups like Boy Harsher or even Twin Tribes, Ceremony Shadows takes an approach that feels more minimalist. Their sonic signature is very clearly their own, and entices the listener from start to breath taking finish. "Resistance" could very easily find itself in the territory of being a club night anthem, as its chorus would soar across any dancefloor. Ceremony Shadows doesn't reinvent the wheel with "Resistance", but instead carve a rather sizable niche into it.
