BRIDES, "Doom Profits" Album Review

He's a familiar face on NotTheAmp, and a staple figure in the dark music scene, and he is set to release his newest incarnation of creativity on the world. Adrian Borgia, the force behind industrial acts like Carrion and Sever the Servants, has pivoted musically to the realm of Post-punk, and brings his niche minimalist approach with him. BRIDES brings us an offering of 7 songs on "Doom Profits", after a series of singles released throughout 2023, which gave us a taste of what is to come. Staccato bass lines and mellow atmospheres pervade each song, punctuated by Adrian's shockingly pleasant baritone (a change from the blackened shrieks of his previous projects). Themes of lost love, peppered with religious imagery in a sardonic and nihilistic fashion, all wrapped up in an existential bundle, Adrian croons his way across each track like a modern day Jim Morrison (whom he pays tribute to in "Drive"). From the gloomy into of "Drive" to the fuzz drenched thump of "Heartquake", and even the keyboard driven "Fear and Faith", BRIDES succeeds in executing his signature minimalist approach without having each track sound the same as the last. Releasing in March of this year, "Doom Profits" is surely worth the wait.

Standout track: "Body and Blood".
