Binary Order, "Thrown Away" EP Review

7 months after the release of 2022's full length album, Binary Order are back with a 4-track EP. Hailing from London, UK, and helmed by sole member Benjamin Blank, Binary Order have undertaken the unheard of task of covering none other than....Papa Roach! "Thrown Away" sees Binary Order completely transform the original song into something completely new, something completely unrecognizable; unless you are a fan of Papa Roach, one would never guess that it was their song to begin with. It is something akin to "All Along The Watch Tower", but, you know, industrial metal. Track number 2, "Parasite- Bleeding Mix" is equally energetic and amps up the heaviness. Breakdown-style percussion and syncopated rhythms, a la 2010 metalcore reimagined pervade the soundscape, as Benjamin's vocal performance reaches a fevered pitch and intensity seldom heard in the genre. But what starts off sharp and searingly hot ends with a slower paced descent into a shady and cool trance style, something akin to groups like Seabound. "A Good Death- Arcadmix Remix" begins setting the pace for the end, as Benjamin's vocals turn from hardcore screams to a hypnotic serenade. The EP finishes its almost 20 minute march with the instrumental "The Hands of Time- Irreversible Mix", bringing the listener into a calm state, quite the opposite of the frenetic start of the EP. While all 4 tracks are incredible, the title track and cover have truly made this writer a fan of the sonic alchemy that Binary Order is capable of.

Standout Track: "Thrown Away". Seriously, don't hate. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen!
