Best of 2023, The One to Keep an Eye On: Not Enough Space

While most of my posts deal with goth and industrial bands, I am very much a fan of metal. I am also very picky and critical when it comes to metal, with, unfortunately, not a lot of acts out there that have risen to impress me. And Orlando, Florida's own Not Enough Space came along and completely flipped my world upside-down. Having stumbled across their video for "No Way Out" completely by accident, I was immediately hooked within the first minute. Helmed by dual vocalists Lizzie and Liv, these two young women can compeltely annihilate any one in the genre with the power of their voices. The clean singing intertwines seamlessly with the screams, with one not overshadowing the other. The band has a sound that is very much a throwback to the wonderful year of 2006, when MySpace metal was at its peak with acts like Attack Attack and Asking Alexandria. What impresses me is that the band manages to stay heavy without falling into today's most overplayed tropes, by not using 8-string guitars or overprocressing the double bass pedals to impossible speeds. Having released a series of singles throughout the year, I am greatly anticipating a debut album. Not Enough Space is definitely the band to keep an eye on!
